All trails are open to dogs on leash.  Trails range from rocky, to wooded, to forest roads.  The river trail offers some spectacular views of the Great Falls and Mather Gorge.  Several nice hiking loops can be made that take in the wide variety of terrain available in the the park.  This is a historic park as well, so several trails give views of the remains of the Patowmack Canal and ruins of several homes in the town of Matildaville.  Click here for park maps provided by the NPS.
General Info.:

Great Falls Park is managed by the National Park service, and is a very dog friendly park.  Not only are the trails open to dogs, but there are also large picnic areas also available.  The park is very popular in good weather and may become quite crowded, especially in the picnic areas and scenic overlooks.

There is a $4 entry fee per car.

Special Notes:Great Falls Park is across the Potomac from Maryland and the C & O Canal National Historical Park, which also offers a number of hiking opportunities for you and your dog.  While hiking along the gorge you may also notice ropes and other climbing equipment used by the many rock climbers that take advantage of the park.
